BCT’s Theater Lab is a high-impact year-round theater-making enrichment program for youth aged six through 18. During this program, students collaborate to conceive, develop, write, edit, and perform their own original works. 

Theater Lab is taught by BCT’s professional teaching artists and takes place at BCT’s Theater in downtown
Boise and onsite at schools across the Treasure Valley.

Theater Lab teaches fundamentals of theater making, such as acting, playwrighting, stagecraft, improvisation, blocking, etc. But more importantly, it teaches and nurtures essential life skills such as collaboration and teamwork, active listening, public speaking, writing, etc., while encouraging valuable social-emotional learning. The program teaches empathy and boosts kids’ self-confidence. Youth mental health is in crisis across the U.S., and Boise is no exception. 

The Boise School District experienced three student suicides last fall alone. BCT’s Theater Lab provides a nurturing, safe, and life-affirming environment for young people to discover themselves and be celebrated for their uniqueness. BCT wholeheartedly believes that theater education and Theater Lab have an important role in building compassionate, resilient, and empowered young people.
